The purpose of the school is to train you to set up seminars, camps, and family ministry programs in your nation and equip you to counsel couples and families. It is possible to do a two months field assignment following the lecture phase in order to integrate previous classroom studies with practical service application. Students serve on teams which conduct marriage and parenting seminars, and also help in planning and conducting family camps.

The DTS for Families is a Discipleship Training School that targets the family. It includes all the normal requirements of a YWAM DTS or Crossroads DTS. However, the DTS for Families seeks to incorporate the entire family into the discipling process. There is a weekly "Family Time", during which, the entire family gathers for worship, intercession, and application of the weekly topic of the school.
